Water Management

Hexagon Technologies and Project Enterprises is able to create sustainable long-term solutions for governments, communities, and even individuals for reliable and purified water supply. This is achieved through the range of technology options we have in our product range ranging from microfiltration that removes large particles in water, to Reverse Osmosis (RO) that removes all contaminants down to an ionic level

Through our strategic partnerships with local and partners, we are able to bring water to the people through world-class, patented, South African purification solutions. As a Black owned and managed company Hexagon Technologies is proud to bring a South African solution to meet the needs of its people

Water Analysis It is essential to establish the nature of water contaminants to create the appropriate water purification solution. By completely understanding the nature of the contamination we are able to address the problem using the various methods and levels of technology available.Conventional methods include chemical dosing, the use of flocculants to settle matter out of the water, and various types of filtration.

The intended use of the water will determine the relevant level of purification. If the contaminants are of such a nature that they have no effect on crops when used for irrigation purposes then no purification is required. Therefore, depending on the purpose that the water is required for, different types of contaminants must be identified and measured to tailor the appropriate purification solution. The analysis of water can be both Qualitative and Quantitative.

Water Purification Technology

Hexagon Technologies and Project Enterprises uses varying configurations of Reverse Osmosis, Microfiltration, and Ultra filtration systems incorporating the patented membrane design of our partners, to configure systems for the desalination by reverse osmosis and filtration of sea, brackish or turbid waters of any capacity in a variety of applications.

Our solutions are tailor made to the customer's specifications whether it is be for a smallholding, a community, a municipality or at provincial or national level.

There are a few types or methods of Water Purification:

  • Particle filtration: removes the solid and typically visible contaminants in water e.g. plastic
  • Micro filtration (MF): Micro filter membranes are absolute cut-off filters rated in the 0.1-3.0 micron range
  • Ultra filtration (UF): Similar to RO and NF, but does not reject ions. It operates at low pressures (0.7-6.9 Bar).

It removes larger organics, colloids, bacteria and pyrogens while allowing most ions and small organics such as sucrose to permeate the porous structure. Nano Filtration (NF): Removes organic compounds, and rejects some salts with low pressures being applied. It is the process normally used for mildly salty tasting water, or as a water softening technique Reverse Osmosis (RO): removing particles up to the ionic spectrum.

Mobile Water Purification

Mobile Water Purificationapplications vary from rural to farm, informal settlements and even as an emergency water delivery source in cities during crisis. We use state of the art technology to process quality from various sources such as rivers and dams. The mobile units are containerized, making it easy to ship them to different locations.

Our systems include disinfection processes downstream, to guarantee drinking water free from bacteria and viruses. We offer a wide range of product options from the smallest system, handling 200 l/hr, right up to those handling over 1.2 million l/hr.A fixed water purification unit is ideal in predictable circumstances but natural or man-made disasters require a different type of solution. It requires a mobile solution to attend to the needs of the community most affected. Some examples of disasters are:

  • Flooding due to heavy rains or a dam bursting its banks
  • Cholera, dysentery or other infection contaminating a water supply
  • A tsunami causing massive flooding
  • Sewage or Water pipeline infrastructure bursting resulting in mass contamination
  • The water table rising significantly in low lying areas.

Yard Water meter unit

The Intelligent Water Meter and the supporting Meter Management System (MMS) provides a revolutionary approach to Water Demand Management. The Intelligent Water Meter ensures significant water savings through consumption management and leak detection with the added benefit of no billing costs. Bad debt is reduced and the lower consumption contributes towards reduced demand on reticulation and treatment plant.

The Intelligent Water Meter can be set to operate in a number of diff erent modes and it can be electronically switched between modes without removing the meter. This provides both customers and service providers with complete flexibility. The meter can be operated in a number of diff erent modes, for example:

  • Water Management Device to control daily consumption
  • Standard Prepayment meter allowing customers to manage their water consumption and provide water to the user at the lowest possible cost
  • Post pay mode with a settable credit limit to provide standard meter advantages but with no billing required

Hand HeLd VendinG unit

The Handheld Vending Unit is used in conjunction with the Intelligent Water Meter and Community Standpipe. It provides the link between the Meter and the Meter Management System (MMS). A network of conveniently located Vending Units provides the customer with easy access to “point of sale” where credit can be purchased. Each transaction is supported by a receipt printed from a dedicated printer.

The vendor purchases bulk water credit from the supplying authority using an iButton™ (Tag) - then re-sells the credit to customers in the community.

The Vendors normally receive a commission on all sales enabling them to trade at a profit. When credit is sold to the customer the vending unit collects the meter data stored on the user tag. This data is transferred to the MMS database whenever the Handheld Vending Unit is downloaded.

The download of data from the Handheld Vending Units into MMS is done using a dedicated cable and needs to be done at least once a month. An optional GPRS plug-in unit is available that allows on-line transactions to be completed as well as the real-time updating of MMS.

ComMunity Stand pipe

The Community Standpipe Water Meter and supporting Meter Management System (MMS) is designed to offer a solution to the provision of water at communal water supply points. It requires low capital investment and can be used in both rural areas and informal settlements. One Meter can typically serve up to 40 households.

The unit consists of a Class B multi jet water meter with electronic read out and built in flow control valve. A patented valve system ensures extended battery life. The unit is meterologically sealed and provides a high level of resistance to physical tamper and is immune to magnetic tamper.

Should the meter become faulty, it can be replaced in the field within ten minutes. The system is powered by a long-life battery which is field replaceable and the entire unit is housed in a robust galvanised or powder coated metal housing. Each user is issued with a user tag in the form of an iButton™. The iButton™ has nonvolatile memory and is built into a small, robust holder designed to withstand rough handling.

Credit is loaded onto the user tag via MMS – either at the local authority offices or from an appointed vendor. On insertion of the user tag into the meter the valve will open and dispense water while deducting credit from the user tag. Once the tag is removed from the meter the valve will close.

All consumption figures are recorded on the user tag and transferred back to MMS whenever credit is purchased. Multiple users can access the meter as the meter itself retains no credit. The Community Standpipe Water Meter ensures savings through controlled consumption. In addition, the risk of bad debt is eliminated.
